Community Colleges with Science Programs
    Community Colleges

Community colleges in the United Sates serve an important role in the nation's post-secondary education. Sometimes going by different names (such as institute, technical college, community college, junior college or just college), they also come in different types, including public, private, faith-affiliated and secular. Community colleges offer mostly 1- and 2-year programs (associate's degrees diplomas, certificates), which are designed to meet the changing needs of career-focused high school graduates--including those pursuing programs in the sciences.

Community colleges aren't just less expensive alternatives to university; they offer different kinds of academic credentials, different science and science technician/ technologist programs, and a smaller, more student-centered learning environment. You can take pre-professional courses to get ready for university, and some 2-year associate's degrees and 1- to 2-year academic and pre-professional diplomas and certificates mean you can qualify for certain professional certifications right away. Community college credits are usually transferable to university bachelor's degree programs, and community colleges may have specific transfer or "articulation" agreements with certain universities. Located in communities across the country, community colleges in the US are a great option for getting started before transferring to a university program, or for getting the credential you need to start working. Starting your future isn't rocket science…but your future might involve studying it! Who knows where the community colleges with science programs can lead you, so begin your search today.
